Indeed, one of the new possibilities is the application of hydrolyzed collagen by injection, including for the treatment of gonarthrosis (osteoarthritis of the knee), which leads to significant clinical improvement without unwanted effects. As the results of current studies have shown, the injection of hydrolyzed collagen affects the chondrocytes of the cartilage-rich tissue of the osteoarthritic joint cartilage, where these cells formed a stronger extracellular matrix and produced more type II collagen, characteristic of joint cartilage, compared to controls.
